What is MilSim?

Military Simulation or “MilSim” for short refers to military-themed scenarios conducted for entertainment and training purposes. Three forms of common MilSim are airsoft, paintball, and video games.

Two common types of MilSim scenarios are reenactment and simulation. Reenactments aim to provide the most accurate representation of a particular event in history. Civil war reenactments are an example. These events rely heavily on the use of replica toy guns and historically accurate military uniforms.

Simulation generally focusses on a specific time-period and is a generalized representation of the weapons and tactics utilized. There are many MilSim events throughout the world, each with its own set of rules and levels of realism and authenticity.

The Importance of Immersion:

One goal of MilSim is participant immersion. Participants take great lengths to ensure the realization of an immersive experience. Players wear military grade tactical gear and utilize replica weapons in the field. Squads overrun bases utilizing military tactics, and snipers provide overwatch during three-day long missions. The experience is phenomenal.

The goal of this website is to educate the novice about airsoft and paintball MilSim. The sport has taken long strides in achieving a sense of realism that was not available at its inception.
